A Rocky Start for the Marlins
The game began with a tough start for the Marlins as Connor Norby struck out swinging, and we couldn't capitalize on a fielding error by Nationals' Jose Tena. By the end of the first inning, the Nationals were up 3-0, making us fans a bit anxious.
Rally Begins in the 3rd Inning
In the top of the 3rd inning, things started to look up. Nick Fortes got hit by a pitch, and a throwing error by CJ Abrams allowed us to get runners on base. Norby grounded out to bring in a run, and then Jonah Bride hit a sacrifice fly to score Javier Sanoja. The score was now 3-2, and we were right back in it!
Pitching Duo Shuts Down Nationals
Our pitchers were phenomenal from the 2nd inning onwards. McCaughan and later Veneziano, and Bender held the Nationals scoreless through the middle innings, giving our bats a chance to work some magic. The Nationals couldn't find any gaps in our defense.
The Turnaround in the 8th Inning!
The 8th inning was where everything changed. Xavier Edwards led off with a double, and Norby followed with a walk. Bride's single scored Edwards, tying up the game! Then Jake Burger came through with another single, loading the bases. A crucial throwing error allowed Norby and Bride to score, making it 5-3 Marlins!
Adding Insurance in the 9th
Griffin Conine reached on an infield single to start the 9th inning and Edwards singled him to third. Norby then hit a sacrifice fly to bring in one more run, making it 6-3. That gave us a nice cushion going into the bottom of the 9th.
Closing it Out
In the bottom of the 9th, Tinoco was untouchable. The Nationals couldn't muster any offense, going 1-2-3. When the final out was recorded with Joey Gallo striking out looking, it was official; the Marlins secured a 6-3 win!
Final Thoughts
What a comeback victory for the Marlins! After falling behind early, our bullpen shut the door, and the bats came alive when we needed it most. A fantastic team effort! Go Marlins!
