Game Summary: A Tough Battle for the Cardinals
It was a tough day at the ballpark for us loyal Redbirds fans as the St. Louis Cardinals fell to the New York Mets with a final score of 9-3. But hey, that doesn’t mean we didn’t have our moments! Right out of the gate, the Cards showed some hustle
Mid-Game Momentum: Keeping Hope Alive
By the end of the 3rd inning, the Cardinals were back in the lead at 3-2, thanks to Victor Scott II, who scored on a throwing error, and a rally-inducing single from Willson Contreras. This had our spirits high, but the Mets quickly gained momentum with some big hits in the 5th, including a two-run homer by Pete Alonso. Despite Nolan Gorman and Pedro Págés making good contact, we couldn’t quite connect the dots offensively to get enough runs across.Late-Inning Struggles
Unfortunately, the 7th inning saw the Mets extending their lead further with a solo homer from Brandon Nimmo and more runs trickling in. A valiant effort by Masyn Winn with a double in the 8th wasn’t enough to spark a late-game rally. Even with a change in our pitching, courtesy of Helsley, the Mets managed to add another run in the 9th. In the end, despite some promising plays and solid hustle, our Cards couldn’t claw back. Here’s hoping for better luck next game. Let’s go, Cardinals!
