Both teams started strong on the mound. Kudos to our pitchers for keeping the Yankees at bay with some fantastic plays. The top of the 1st started with Anthony Volpe flying out, followed by two swinging strikeouts from Juan Soto and Aaron Judge. Finally, we broke through in the 4th inning! Maikel Garcia drew a walk, Bobby Witt Jr. singled, and Vinnie Pasquantino delivered a clutch double, sending both runners home. Talk about a team effort! This put us up 2-0, and you could feel the momentum shifting in our favor.
Yankees Strike Back in the 8th
The Yankees mounted a comeback. Anthony Rizzo homered to start the 8th inning, reducing our lead to 2-1. A costly fielding error and a couple more hits saw them take the lead 3-2. It was tense, but we believed in our Royals!
9th Inning Heroics
Down to our last outs, Drew Waters sparked hope with a single. MJ Melendez subbed in and grounded into a fielder’s choice, leaving us with two outs. Kyle Isbel stepped up with a key single, pushing Melendez to third. Then, in the clutchest of moments, Maikel Garcia delivered a game-winning single, scoring Melendez and Isbel! The Royals win it 4-3!
