A Promising Start, but a Tough Finish
Despite the final score of 11-3 in favor of the Athletics, the Orioles had our hopes soaring early on in the first inning. After Lawrence Butler walked and Shea Langeliers homered, putting the Athletics up by two, our boys quickly answered back. Jackson Holliday and Jordan Westburg reached base with infield singles, setting the stage for Gunnar Henderson, who hit a three-run homer to center field!
That shot put us ahead, 3-2, and had Camden Yards buzzing with excitement. A Game of Missed Opportunities
Unfortunately, the momentum didn't last. Following Henderson's homer, our bats went cold. We couldn't capitalize on several bases-loaded situations and saw multiple players strike out, including the usually reliable Adley Rutschman and Coby Mayo.
Brent Rooker of the Athletics, however, didn't miss his chance and hit a three-run homer in the top of the third, putting them ahead 5-3. From there, the Athletics seemed to have an answer for everything, as they extended their lead further with consistent hits and strong pitching, while we struggled to find our rhythm again.Final Innings and Looking Forward
Despite valiant efforts and a few more baserunners, including Ryan Mountcastle's single in the bottom of the ninth, the Orioles just couldn't string together the hits we needed to mount a comeback. While it's disheartening to see a game get away from us like this, there's always a silver lining. Henderson's early homer gives us a peek at what our young core can do, and as a fan, I'm optimistic about what's to come. We'll take this as a learning opportunity and come back stronger! Let’s keep supporting our Birds as they continue to develop and aim for the wins we know they're capable of!
