Tough Game for the Mets

Hey Mets fans, 😔

Well, it was a rough day at Citi Field. The Athletics got the best of us with a final score of 9-4. From the get-go, it seemed like we were in for a tough battle.

First Inning Struggles

The game started on a sour note for us. After a shaky top of the first where the Athletics scored three runs thanks to a bases-clearing double from Seth Brown, we couldn't get anything going in our half. Francisco Lindor and Brandon Nimmo both struck out, and Jesse Winker grounded out to end the inning.

Signs of Life in the Second Inning

We managed to get on the board in the bottom of the second inning. Pete Alonso struck out, but J.D. Martinez got on base after being hit by a pitch. Jeff McNeil walked, and Jose Iglesias singled to bring in Martinez. Unfortunately, that was the only run we could muster in that inning.

Athletics Pull Away

Things went from bad to worse in the top of the third inning. A costly error by Jose Iglesias eventually led to a three-run homer by Shea Langeliers, putting us down 7-1. We had runners on base in our half, but failed to capitalize.

Brief Rally in the Fifth

The highlight of the game for us came in the bottom of the fifth inning. Francisco Lindor got on base with a single, and Jeff McNeil followed up with a walk. Jesse Winker doubled to bring Lindor home, and Pete Alonso drove in two more runs with a single. Suddenly, it was 7-4, and we had hope. However, we couldn't push across any more runs.

Late-Inning Drought

The Athletics tacked on two more runs in the sixth, bringing the score to 9-4. Despite our hitters doing their best, we couldn’t muster any late-inning magic. Lindor and Nimmo were silenced, and the Athletics' bullpen shut us down in the final three innings.

Final Thoughts

It was a tough loss, no doubt about it. The Athletics did a good job of taking advantage of our mistakes, and their pitchers kept our bats in check. We showed some heart in the fifth inning, and it’s clear we have the potential to make comebacks.

Let’s keep our heads up and look forward to the next game! Let's go Mets! 🙌⚾
