Starting Off Slow

The Mariners hosted the Athletics in a nail-biting matchup, ultimately clinching a narrow 3-2 victory. The game began with a bit of a rough start for our Mariners as the Athletics came out swinging. In the top of the first inning, Brent Rooker from the Athletics hit a 389-foot homer to left center, putting us at a 0-1 disadvantage early on. Our bats were silent in response, with Randy Arozarena, Cal Raleigh, and Julio Rodríguez unable to convert in the bottom half of the inning.

Turning the Tide

The Athletics held onto their slight lead until Eugenio Suárez stepped up to the plate in the bottom of the 5th inning and blasted a solo home run to left (373 feet), tying the game 1-1! 🏏 That home run sparked a new energy in our lineup. Although Jorge Polanco got on base right after, we couldn't capitalize further in that inning. The top of our pitching lineup also stepped up to the task, stopping the Athletics player after player.

Decisive 7th Inning

Come the bottom of the 7th inning, Josh Naylor reignited the crowd with a massive solo home run to right center (397 feet)! 🎉 Now leading 2-1, the Mariners weren’t finished yet. Jorge Polanco then launched a solo shot of his own, stretching our lead to 3-1. Solid pitching from Matt Brash and later Andrés Muñoz helped contain the Athletics’ lineup. In the nervy top of the 9th inning, the Athletics managed to score a run, but Muñoz was able to secure the win by getting Hernaiz and JJ Bleday out in crucial moments. Our Mariners emerged victorious with a 3-2 triumph! ⚾🎉

What a game, Seattle! It's never easy against a scrappy team like the Athletics, but we've pulled off another clutch win. Go Mariners! 🌊
