Phillies Come Up Short Against Orioles​

It’s always tough to see our Phillies put up a fight and fall short, but that’s what happened in this game against the Orioles. We started out strong, got some early runs, yet ultimately couldn’t hold on.

Early Lead for the Phillies ​

In the top of the 1st inning, Bryce Harper got things going with a single to right. This was followed by a clutch double to center from Alec Bohm, bringing Harper home and giving us a 1-0 lead! And in the 2nd inning, Edmundo Sosa launched a solo home run, extending our lead to 2-0. Things were looking good!

Pitching Struggles and Defensive Errors ​

Unfortunately, our momentum didn’t hold. The Orioles scored in the 3rd after a sacrifice fly from Rutschman, along with a throwing error by Nick Castellanos which allowed Henderson to reach second. The Orioles tied it up in the 4th with a solo homer from Santander.

Opportunities Missed ​

As the game progressed, we had our chances. In the 6th inning, Bohm singled and Bryson Stott doubled, putting runners in scoring positions with two outs, but Sosa struck out. In the 7th, Garrett Stubbs got on base and stole second, but we couldn’t capitalize.

O’s Take Over Late ​

In the bottom of the 6th, a sacrifice fly from Santander brought in another run for the Orioles, making it 3-2. The real dagger came in the 8th when Santander hit another homer, this one scoring two, putting Baltimore up 5-2. Henderson added an RBI with a single, closing the inning at 6-2.

Final Effort Falls Short​

We had one last shot in the 9th. Bryson Stott walked and stole second, but Sosa and Brandon Marsh struck out swinging, and Stubbs went down looking. That was that. An admirable effort, but we came up short with a final score of 2-6.

Looking Forward ​

Though it’s a tough loss, we’ve got to keep our heads up and focus on the next game. Let’s go, Phillies! #RingTheBell
