Tough Start for the Cubs
The Chicago Cubs took on the Philadelphia Phillies in a challenging matchup tonight. While we had some strong moments, the game didn't start in our favor. The first inning saw Nico Hoerner grounding out, and despite Michael Busch's walk and Seiya Suzuki's single, we couldn't push a run across. The Phillies, however, got on the board in the 2nd inning with a two-run double from Stubbs, making it 2-0.Bright Moments Amidst Struggles
Cody Bellinger brought some life to the game in the 3rd inning, doubling to center to score Hoerner. But Trea Turner was on fire for the Phillies, homering twice, including a two-run shot in the 5th that extended their lead to 5-1. Our batters struggled to find rhythm, and by the end of the 5th, we were still trailing.Late-Inning Hope, but Not Enough
The game picked up for us in the 9th inning. Busch singled, and Bellinger followed with another single. The highlight of the night was Suzuki's massive 384-foot homer that brought us within striking distance at 6-4. Unfortunately, despite the rally, Ian Happ and Christopher Morel both struck out, and Dansby Swanson lined out, ending our hopes of a comeback.Final Thoughts
It was a rollercoaster of a game with some fantastic moments. Suzuki’s homer was definitely the highlight, and it was great to see Bellinger making an impact. However, the Phillies outplayed us, and Turner especially was a thorn in our side. We’ll regroup and come back stronger! Go Cubs! ️Scoreboard for Phillies @ Cubs (July 3rd, 2024)
