Rough Start for the Tigers

The game couldn't have started off worse for us. Kyle Schwarber reached first on a fielding error by Zach McKinstry. Then, Trea Turner doubled to push Schwarber to third. Bryce Harper came up big for the Phillies with a double, bringing both runners home. As if that wasn't enough, Alec Bohm homered to make it a quick 4-0. Ouch. 💔

Stranding Base Runners & Missed Opportunities

We had a few chances early on. Mark Canha got hit by a pitch in the 2nd inning, and we had some base runners in the 3rd after Zach McKinstry and Carson Kelly singled. But, a triple play killed any hope of a rally. Unbelievable. 😩

Brief Glimmer of Hope

In the 5th, we finally got on the board! McKinstry doubled, and Kelly brought him in with a single. It felt like the start of a comeback, but sadly, it was our only run of the game. Matt Vierling flied out to end the inning, and we trailed 4-1. ⚾

Harper Strikes Again

In the 6th, Harper delivered the knockout blow with a three-run homer. That put the Phillies up 7-1 and really took the wind out of our sails. Beau Brieske did his best in relief, but the damage was done. 💣

A Forgettable Finish

We couldn't get anything going offensively in the late innings. Meanwhile, the Phillies added another run in the 8th with Bohm scoring Harper. The score ballooned to 8-1, and that’s where it stayed. We ended the game with Gio Urshela lining out to center in the 9th. Final score: 8-1 in favor of the Phillies.

Final Thoughts

It was a tough loss, no doubt. Our boys had their moments, but the Phillies capitalized on our mistakes and took control of the game early. Let's hope we can bounce back stronger next time. Go Tigers! 🐯

Feel free to chime in with your thoughts or any bright spots you saw in this tough game.
