A Strong Start for the Dodgers
The game got off to a promising start for us Dodger fans! In the bottom of the 1st, Teoscar Hernandez doubled to left and was subsequently driven home by a single from Freddie Freeman. Then, Miguel Rojas brought Freeman home with his own single to left, putting us ahead 2-1. This was a great way to respond after the Phillies’ Kyle Schwarber hit a solo homer in the top half.Freeman's Magic in the 2nd
In the 2nd inning, Freddie Freeman continued his brilliance. After a single by Austin Barnes and a hit-by-pitch for Kevin Kiermaier, Freeman delivered a clutch two-RBI single to left, extending our lead to 4-1. This gave us great momentum early in the game!Schwarber Strikes Back
Unfortunately, Schwarz didn't stay quiet for too long. He doubled home two runs in the top of the 5th to tighten the score to 4-3. Then, in the 6th inning, he hit a three-run homer that deeply cut into our lead, putting them back on top 8-4.The 6th Inning Collapse
The 6th inning was rough for the Dodgers’ bullpen. After Nick Castellanos scored on a grounded out, the inning unraveled with a wild pitch and another homer by Schwarber to center, pushing the Phillies further ahead. The score skyrocketed to 8-4, and our relief was unable to stop the bleeding.Quiet Offense and Missed Opportunities
From the 5th inning onwards, the Dodgers struggled to get any offensive rhythm. Despite some efforts from Austin Barnes, Kevin Kiermaier, and newcomer Andy Pages, key hits just weren't falling. The Phillies’ bullpen shut us down inning after inning, keeping our players off the bases.Schwarber Seals It in the 9th
As if Schwarber hadn't done enough damage, he finished the job with another homer in the 9th inning, making it 9-4. Despite a slight rally in the bottom of the inning, with Jason Heyward and Barnes reaching base, we couldn’t capitalize. Shohei Ohtani and Teoscar Hernandez were unable to bring the runners home, and the game ended in a tough loss.Final Thoughts
It was a game of missed opportunities and bullpen struggles. The early innings were promising, and Freddie Freeman was undoubtedly the star with three RBIs. However, Schwarber and the Phillies capitalized on crucial moments to seize the win. We will need to tighten up our bullpen and look forward to bouncing back in the next game. Keep the faith, Dodger fans!Scoreboard for Phillies @ Dodgers (August 8th, 2024)
