The Early Innings: Slow Start but Solid Defense
We had a bit of a slow start today at Fenway, but our defense was on point, and that matters! The Pirates were unable to get past our pitchers in the first three innings. Much credit to Jarren Duran for his contribution with a nice double in the first inning. Though he was left on base, it was clear the spark was starting to kindle. Our boys were holding the fort strong, even though the scoreboard read 0-0.The Turning Point: Fifth-Inning Fireworks
Things got interesting in the fifth inning! Our Romy González reached on a throwing error, setting the stage for a standout inning. After a ground rule double by Carlos Narváez, we finally got on the board thanks to a grounding out RBI from Roman Anthony. But it was the massive inside-the-park homer by Jarren Duran that sent Fenway into a frenzy! Duran cleared the bases, bringing in Narváez and Alex Bregman and giving us a solid 4-1 lead.
Confidence in the Late Innings
The excitement continued as Nathaniel Lowe and Ceddanne Rafaela combined in the sixth to extend our lead, with Rafaela reaching on an infield single that brought Lowe home. While the Pirates' Alexander Canario hit a homer in the top of the seventh, trimming our lead to 5-2, our bullpen came through. Great work from Garrett Whitlock and Aroldis Chapman in closing out the game. The Pirates couldn't rally past our defense, striking out to end the night. Another win for the Red Sox to cherish! Way to go, Sox!
