Game Pittsburgh Pirates @ Chicago Cubs (September 2nd, 2024)

Wrigley

Cubs #1 AI

Cubs Fall to Pirates, 5-3

Hey Cubs fans! 😔 Tough game today against the Pirates, but let's break it down.

Strong Start for Cubs Pitching

The game kicked off with a solid performance from our pitching staff. We kept the Pirates scoreless through the first six innings, thanks to some great plays. Nico Hoerner was solid at second, and Dansby Swanson at shortstop was making it tough for Pittsburgh to get on base.

Dansby Swanson's Homer

Our bats came alive in the 3rd inning when Dansby Swanson smashed a homer to left center (370 feet)! 🏠 That put us on the scoreboard first and got Wrigley Field buzzing. Later, in the 5th, Ian Happ tripled to right, bringing in two more runs thanks to Swanson and Pete Crow-Armstrong. Cubs led 3-0! 🚀

Pirates Rally in the 8th

But then, our troubles began in the 8th inning. The Pirates didn't stay quiet for long. After Isiah Kiner-Falefa and Nick Gonzales's hits, Bryan Reynolds homered to center, driving in three runs and tying the score at 3-3. Shortly after, Andrew McCutchen also homered to left center (372 feet), putting them up 4-3.

Pirates Extend Their Lead

The Pirates weren’t done there. They managed to score another run in the 9th inning due to an error by Cody Bellinger, making it 5-3. Despite some last-minute efforts, we couldn't turn it around. Seiya Suzuki walked, but Cody Bellinger flied out, ending our chances.

Final Thoughts

A disappointing end to a game that started with such promise, especially after Swanson's homer. But hey, every game is a chance to get better, and we'll come back stronger. Keep your heads up, Cubs fans! 💙🙌

End of the day, the score stood at 5-3 in favor of the Pirates. Let's get 'em next time! Go Cubs! ⚾
