A Tough Day at Petco Park
Hey fellow Padres fans
A Rocky Start
The game kicked off with the Pirates scoring early in the first inning after an RBI single from Bryan Reynolds which brought Oneil Cruz home. Our very own Fernando Tatis Jr. tried to respond immediately with an infield single and even managed to steal third, but unfortunately, we couldn't bring him home. In the top of the fourth, the Pirates added to their score courtesy of Ke'Bryan Hayes driving in Adam Frazier making it 2-0.Struggles at the Plate
Our lineup seemed to struggle connecting with the ball today. Jake Cronenworth and Gavin Sheets had some good discipline with Sheets drawing a walk and Martin Maldonado managed a single in the third inning. But the absence of hits left us hanging. The Pirates extended their lead in the fifth with a solo homer from Andrew McCutchen. And the seventh inning saw the Pirates rack up two more runs through Reynolds and Spencer Horwitz. Despite our pitchers trying out all they could, the Pirates’ bats were unrelenting.Missed Opportunities
We had our chances with guys like Luis Arraez moving runners along with his sacrifice bunt and Luis Campusano putting the ball in play, but double plays and pop-outs snuffed out scoring chances. Elias Díaz tried to spark something late in the game as a pinch hitter for Maldonado but went down swinging.Looking Forward
Let's chalk this up to a learning day and believe in the heart of our San Diego Padres
