Tough Loss for the Padres Against the Orioles

Hey Padres fans, what a rollercoaster of a game today against the Orioles. Unfortunately, we came up short with an 8-6 loss. But let's break down the action!

Early Struggles

The first three innings were tough for the Padres. Luis Arraez and Jurickson Profar couldn’t get on base, and Jake Cronenworth walked but was left stranded. Manny Machado struck out swinging twice.

The bottom of the 3rd inning was particularly brutal when the Orioles exploded with 6 runs. Jordan Westburg, Cedric Mullins, and Colton Cowser contributed to that huge rally. It wasn't until Ha-Seong Kim helped us get on the scoreboard in the 5th inning that we saw some light.

Fighting Back

We showed some grit in the 5th and 6th innings. Jackson Merrill got it going with a double to right, followed by David Peralta reaching on an infield single. Ha-Seong Kim drove in Merrill, and Kyle Higashioka sent Peralta home to make it 6-2. Arraez grounded into a double play, but it allowed Kim to score, reducing their lead to 6-3.

Then the magic happened in the 6th! Manny Machado singled, and Xander Bogaerts blasted a homer to left, closing the gap to 6-5. Unfortunately, we couldn’t maintain that momentum, and the Orioles added 2 more runs in the bottom of the 8th.

Missed Opportunities

The 9th had us on the edge of our seats. David Peralta reached on an infield single and advanced to second on a throwing error. Ha-Seong Kim followed with another single. With bases loaded, Arraez singled to center but was replaced by pinch runner Tyler Wade.

Profar grounded into a fielder's choice, scoring Peralta to bring us within 2 runs, but we fell short when Jake Cronenworth grounded out to second to end the game. 😞

Looking Ahead

Despite the loss, there were highlights and instances of strong play. Let's keep our heads up and focus on the next game. Go Padres! 💪⚾
