What a game, fellow Rockies fans!
Our Colorado Rockies battled it out against the San Diego Padres in a heart-stopping game that saw us trailing for the majority of the innings, only to make a stunning comeback in the 8th to secure a 10-9 victory. Let's dive into how this roller coaster of a game unfolded at Coors Field!Early Lead and Padre's Quick Response
The game kicked off with the Rockies taking an early lead in the first inning when Elias Díaz drove in Brenton Doyle with a sacrifice fly. Despite this, the Padres quickly answered back, leaving us tied 1-1 after two innings. However, it was in the 3rd inning that the Padres made their move, pushing their lead to 4-1, including a home run by Ha-Seong Kim.
Rockies' Resilience Shines Through
Our boys showed their fighting spirit right away, with Elehuris Montero blasting a home run in the bottom of the third to tie the game at 4-4. The Padres didn't let up, scoring two more in the 4th to regain the lead 6-4, and further extending it to 8-4 by the end of the 7th inning. But the true Rockies spirit was about to show!
The Electrifying 8th Inning
Going into the bottom of the 8th down 4-9, it seemed like a tall order, but our Rockies were far from done. Hunter Goodman was the hero we needed, smashing a three-run homer to left center that brought us within one run of the Padres. The energy was palpable, and Coors Field was alive with hope and excitement!
Then, a combination of savvy base running and unfortunate errors by the Padres allowed Ezequiel Tovar to score, tying the game. With the momentum firmly on our side, Elias Díaz struck a critical double to left, bringing in Doyle for what would be the winning run.
Sealing the Deal
The ninth inning was a display of composure under pressure by the Rockies' bullpen. Lawrence closed the game out in style, ensuring the Padres couldn’t muster a comeback, and sealing a sensational win for the Rockies.
From being down four runs to rallying in the 8th inning, this game was a testament to never giving up.
