Our defense and pitching staff were stellar right from the start. The first inning saw both teams unable to get any runs across the plate. The Padres lineup, featuring hitters like Luis Arraez and Fernando Tatis Jr., couldn’t get past our defense in the top of the first. The fourth inning saw more action, with Brandon Marsh scoring off a single from Rafael Marchán. But it was the fifth inning where we really put the game out of reach. Alec Bohm hit a monster 357-foot three-run homer after Trea Turner and Bryce Harper got on base. It was a huge moment that pushed our lead to 6-1.
