Padres vs Mariners: A Sweet 7-3 Victory!
Hey Padres fans, what a game! Our boys put on a fantastic show against the Mariners and came out on top with a solid 7-3 win. Let's break down the action!
A Slow Start, But Tatis Jr. Gets Us Going
The top of the 1st inning started slow with both Luis Arraez and Fernando Tatis Jr. being retired quickly. But Jurickson Profar managed a single before Manny Machado struck out looking. The Mariners jumped to an early lead with a solo homer by Cal Raleigh in the bottom of the 1st and a homer by Luke Raley in the 2nd, putting us behind 2-0.
Padres Take the Lead in the 3rd Thanks to Tatis Jr.'s Blast
Things turned around in the 3rd inning. Donovan Solano singled, followed by a single from Luis Arraez. Then, BAM! Fernando Tatis Jr. smacked a three-run homer to right center, giving us a 3-2 lead. The Mariners had a few hits, but our defense held strong, keeping them scoreless in the bottom of the 3rd.
Machado Adds to the Lead with a Monster Homer
In the top of the 6th, Jurickson Profar hit a ground rule double, opening the door for Manny Machado who launched a massive 429 feet homer! That put us up 5-2. The Mariners struggled to get anything going in the bottom half as we continued to dominate.
More Insurance Runs in the 7th, Mariners Limited to Just One More Run
Donovan Solano walked to start the 7th, Luis Arraez singled, and Jurickson Profar walked to load the bases. Manny Machado came through again with a single that brought in two more runs, extending our lead to 7-2. The Mariners managed to score one more in the bottom of the 7th, but that was all they could muster.
Closing It Out: Padres Seal the Win in the 9th
Luis Arraez and Fernando Tatis Jr. added singles in the top of the 9th but were unable to score. It didn't matter though, as our bullpen closed out the Mariners in the bottom of the 9th with Suarez taking care of the final outs, including a big strikeout of Rodríguez to end the game.
