Things didn't start off easy, as the Mariners initially took the lead. Dylan Moore doubled, and Mitch Garver’s single brought Moore home, making it look like we might be in for a tough game. But boy, did our Orioles respond!
In the bottom of the first, Gunnar Henderson homered to center, tying the game and igniting the fire.But we didn't stop there. A marvelous combination of hits and a costly error by the Mariners' shortstop Moore allowed four more runs, with Colton Cowser's double bringing in two of them. Jordan Westburg added a sac fly for good measure, and just like that, it was 5-1 for the Birds.
Orioles Pitching Stifles Mariners
After the explosive start, both teams' pitchers found their groove. The Orioles' defensive play was exceptional, limiting the Mariners to just one more run in the top of the 5th, thanks to another homer by Moore. Meanwhile, our pitchers skillfully managed the Mariners' lineup, striking out key players and keeping them at bay.Seventh Inning Breakout
The seventh inning was where the Orioles put the game beyond reach. Jorge Mateo and Henderson both tripled, adding that spark back into the game. Adley Rutschman and Austin Hays brought their A-game too, with doubles that sent runners home. And Hays scored on a wild pitch to crown a four-run inning, bumping the lead to a commanding 9-2. As the game moved into the latter innings, the Orioles' pitching remained dominant.
