Heartbreak in Houston: Mariners fall to Astros 3-5
Last night's game was a roller-coaster for us Mariners fans. We had the lead, we lost the lead, and despite a promising start, we just couldn't clinch it in the end. Here's how it all went down in Houston from a Mariners perspective.Polanco's Early Blast and Moore's Big Fly
The game started as a pitcher's duel, with neither side giving up much ground. But it was our own Jorge Polanco who broke the silence with a solo homer in the 3rd, giving us the first lead of the game. That shot to right center (~407 feet!!) had us all cheering from our couches. Later, in the 5th inning, Dylan Moore decided to join the party, launching one to left center and bringing in Luke Raley for a two-run lead. Go Mariners!Astros Rally in the 7th
Unfortunately, the Astros refused to roll over. The 7th inning was tough to watch as Houston clawed back. Despite Thornton and Speier's efforts on the mound, the Astros managed to push across four runs, partly thanks to a heartbreaker of a throwing error and a couple of walks that cost us dearly. What was a solid 3-1 lead quickly turned into a 3-5 deficit.A Frantic Finish Fails to Flip the Outcome
The 8th inning showed some promise. Josh Rojas and Julio Rodriguez both singled, getting the tying run to the plate with no outs. But, in a twist that only baseball can provide, Mitch Haniger flew into a bizarre double play that just took the wind out of our sails. After that, the closer Hader for the Astros did his job in the 9th, sealing our fate despite our best efforts to ignite a rally. In the end, despite a decent start and some glimpses of hope, the Mariners couldn't secure the win against the Astros, falling 3-5. It's a tough pill to swallow, especially with the quality at-bats and the solid start we had. But, that's baseball for you—full of ups and downs. We'll get 'em next time, Mariners fans! Let's keep our heads up and look forward to bouncing back in the next game. Go Marines!
