What a roller coaster of emotions last night, fellow Royals fans!
The game between our Kansas City Royals and the Seattle Mariners ended in an unforgettable comeback and a dramatic walk-off, sealing the deal with a final score of 10-9 for our boys in blue! Let’s dive into the highlights of this epic battle.Early Innings: A Rocky Start
The game did not start in our favor, to put it mildly. The Mariners came out swinging in the top of the first inning, racking up a daunting 7-0 lead. Highlights (or lowlights) for us included a double by Mitch Haniger that cleared the bases, followed by a double from Victor Robles and a homer from Ryan Bliss that drove in two more runs. It felt like one of those nights where nothing could go right for our Royals.
The Comeback Kids Start Their Engines
Despite the rocky start, the Royals' spirit never wavered. In the bottom of the fourth inning, our momentum started to shift thanks to Bobby Witt Jr.'s infield single and a crucial walk by Vinnie Pasquantino. Then Nelson Velazquez got on base with an infield single, bringing Witt Jr. home. But the big blast came from MJ Melendez, who smashed a homer to right, bringing in three runs and narrowing the score to 8-4. We started to believe!
The Sixth Inning Surge
The sixth inning was crucial for us. After the Mariners added another run to make it 9-4, the Royals' bats caught fire. Velazquez and Salvador Perez walked, setting the stage for a dramatic turn. Hunter Renfroe delivered a classic single to center, driving in two runs. Then, new lineup additions Nick Loftin and Garrett Hampson got involved, but we ended the inning still trailing 9-7. Then, our hero, Witt Jr., tripled to left, scoring Hampson and tying the game at 9-9. The stadium was electrifying!
