Tough Loss at Home
What a heartbreaker for us A's fans as our Oakland Athletics couldn't get the job done against the Seattle Mariners, falling 3-0 in a game that felt closer than the score suggests. The game began as a pitchers' duel, with both teams putting zeroes on the board in the early innings. Our starter was dealing, striking out Julio RodrÃguez to end the 1st and setting the tone. However, Abraham Toro's double in the bottom of the 1st gave us hope early on, but we just couldn't capitalize, stranding him at third.
As the innings progressed, it seemed we were always on the cusp of breaking through. Seth Brown got on base in the 2nd thanks to an error and made it to third, but again, the A's couldn't bring him home. It's these moments that you look back on and wish for just one hit to change the narrative.
Mariners Take Advantage
The Mariners broke the deadlock in the 3rd with a sacrifice fly by Dylan Moore, barely squeaking one run across. They slowly built their lead with Mitch Garver driving in another in the 4th and then securing the win with a solo home run in the 9th. Not our best day in the field or at the plate, as every opportunity to catch up or take control was met with frustration.
Final Thoughts
While it's tough to swallow a 3-0 loss, especially at home, there were glimpses of solid play and moments where it felt like things were about to turn our way.
