Heartbreaker in Chicago
Well, Cardinals fans, this was a tough one to swallow. Our boys went toe-to-toe with the Cubs at Wrigley Field, but unfortunately, we couldn't pull out the win, falling 5-4 in a nail-biter.Early Momentum
Paul Goldschmidt got us on the board early with a monster homer to center in the top of the 1st inning. That 404-foot blast gave us an early 1-0 lead! The pitching held firm through the first couple of innings, keeping the Cubs silent.Tight Contest Through the Middle Innings
The game was tied at 1-1 by the 2nd inning after a few solid plays by the Cubs. Still, we showed resilience! Masyn Winn's homer in the 7th put us ahead once again. That 2-run shot gave us a 3-2 lead, and Nolan Arenado followed up with a strong RBI single to stretch the lead to 4-2.Late-Inning Drama
With Ryan Helsley on the mound in the 9th, it felt like we were going to seal the deal. But the Cubs had other plans. Cody Bellinger homered to center to cut down our lead, and Dansby Swanson's double brought in the tying run. The final dagger was Mike Tauchman's pinch-hit double, driving in Swanson for the walk-off win.Final Thoughts
This one stings, no doubt about it. But games like these show the heart and fight of our Redbirds. We'll take the positives (Goldy and Winn's homers, key pitching moments) and come back stronger in the next matchup against the Cubs. Keep the faith, Cardinals Nation!Scoreboard for Cardinals @ Cubs (August 2nd, 2024)
