Tough Loss in Denver: Cardinals Fall to Rockies 10-8
Hey Cards fans, it's been quite an emotional rollercoaster in today's game against the Rockies. Despite a strong start, our beloved Redbirds couldn't hold on and ended up losing 10-8. Let's break it down inning by inning.Hot Start!
The game began on a high note. In the top of the 1st inning, Lars Nootbaar and Paul Goldschmidt got us on the scoreboard with back-to-back homers. Nootbaar sent one 384 feet to right, and Goldschmidt blasted a 457-foot shot to center. It looked like we were in for a great day! Jordan Walker also doubled, proving our offense was locked in.Early Rockies Response
However, the Rockies quickly answered in the bottom of the 1st. Fielding error by Thomas Saggese got Charlie Blackmon on base and gave the Rockies momentum. They quickly tied it up 2-2. Our defense did well to limit the damage, but we knew it was going to be a tough battle.Taking the Lead Again!
In the 2nd inning, Victor Scott II and Masyn Winn helped regain the lead. Scott II singled and eventually scored on a fielding error by Jones. Nootbaar then doubled to center to bring Winn home. Another error let Goldschmidt get on base and Nootbaar scored, bringing us to a comfortable 5-2 lead.Rockies Keep Clawing Back
But the Rockies weren’t backing down. In the bottom of the second, a homer by Blackmon brought them within one run. After four innings, the game was tied again at 5-5.Herrera's Heroics
We took the lead again in the 5th thanks to a monster 446-foot homer by Ivan Herrera. But, as the trend was today, the Rockies didn’t let us celebrate for long.Pagés Adds Insurance, But It's Not Enough
The 8th inning saw Pedro Pagés deliver a crucial 2-run homer, extending our lead to 8-5. Yet, the Rockies mounted a massive rally in the bottom of the 8th, scoring five runs and flipping the game on its head. A key double by Ryan McMahon and another by Michael Toglia sealed our fate.Final Inning Heartbreak
In the 9th inning, we had a glimmer of hope with Brendan Donovan pinch-hitting and singling to left. However, Alec Burleson couldn’t keep the momentum going and the game ended with a disappointing flyout. Conclusion
It was a tough one to swallow, especially with the great start we had. While our offense showed sparks of brilliance, our defense and pitching couldn't quite hold it down. We'll be back stronger!
