Cardinals' Early Struggles
Starting in the top of the 1st inning, the St. Louis Cardinals seemed poised to take off with Victor Scott II singling to center. However, it was a bumpy start as Jose Fermín flied out, and Jose Barrero fouled out. In a disappointing turn, Scott II was caught stealing second base. Meanwhile, the Mets drew blood first when Juan Soto smashed a 396-foot homer in the bottom of the 1st, putting them ahead 1-0.
Thrilling Cardinals Comeback
The excitement began to build in the top of the 3rd inning when the Cardinals decided it was time to heat up. Michael Helman doubled to left and advanced to third on a wild pitch, setting the stage for Yohel Pozo. With a solid swing, Pozo homered to left center, bringing Helman home and flipping the scoreline to 2-1 in favor of the Cardinals. Our defense stayed strong, not allowing any runs in the bottom of the 3rd and 4th innings.
Back-and-Forth Battle and Wild Finish
The Cardinals continued the momentum in the 6th inning as Nolan Gorman doubled and Matt Koperniak brought in Noah Mendlinger to make it 3-1. The Mets weren't ready to give up, pulling it back to 3-2 with Francisco Lindor and Soto striking again in the bottom half. The drama peaked in the 8th when a wild pitch allowed the tying run to score, leveling the game at 3-3. Both teams had no love from the bats in the 9th inning, and it concluded with a 3-3 tie. Cardinals fans, while a win would have been sweeter, it was a thrilling game showcasing the resilience of our team!
