Heartbreak in Extra Innings

Fellow Nationals fans, it's never easy writing a recap after such a nail-biter of a game, especially one that we were so close to winning 😓. Let's dive right in.

Early Dominance

The game started off strong for us. In the bottom of the 1st, Lane Thomas singled to left, setting up Jesse Winker's double to bring Thomas home! Another RBI by Luis García Jr. pushed our lead to 2-0. In the 2nd inning, CJ Abrams doubled to right, bringing in two more runs! After a solo homer by García Jr. in the 3rd, we were sitting pretty with a 5-0 lead. 🌟

Turning Point

Everything seemed to be going smoothly until the 4th inning when the Cardinals started to chip away at our lead. Paul Goldschmidt and Nolan Arenado set the stage for a slight comeback. By the time Willson Contreras homered in the 9th to tie it 5-5, the tension was palpable.

Extra Innings Drama

In the 10th, the Cardinals took a 6-5 lead, but Keibert Ruiz brought us back, leveling the score 6-6 with a clutch single. Unfortunately, a disastrous double play ended our hopes for a walk-off win in the 10th. The Cardinals capitalized in the 11th, scoring on a passed ball by Riley Adams, and despite our best efforts, we couldn't pull off any late-game heroics.

Frustration and Hope

Despite the final score of 7-6 in favor of the Cardinals, we saw glimpses of greatness throughout the game. Hats off to players like Luis García Jr. and Jesse Winker who gave it their all. We've got some things to work on, but let's take this as a learning experience, Nationals! 🌟⚾

Stay loud, stay proud, and let's get ready for the next one! 💪
