Tough Start for the Nationals

What a rough start it was for our Washington Nationals as we watched the St. Louis Cardinals jump ahead early in the game. Despite a promising effort in the first inning by James Wood with that single to right, the bats were relatively quiet. Our defense held strong initially, but that second inning avalanche from the Cardinals had us on the back foot quickly with them scoring four runs. 😞 The Cardinals showed their prowess with clutch hits, especially when Lars Nootbaar doubled to right, driving in two additional runs.

Mid-Game Struggles

As the innings progressed, our boys struggled to get anything going against the hallmark of Cardinals pitching. Keibert Ruiz and Luis García Jr. were continually faced with tough pitches, and Jacob Young had a promising bunt single in the 5th, showing some sparks of life. Our new pitcher, Henry, stepped in the 7th and held the line, showing that even when things are tough, our players aren't quitting. Unfortunately, the Cardinals defense was just too solid, and we struggled to convert even with men on base.

Late Game Rally Comes Up Short

In the 8th inning, Dylan Crews gave us hope with a towering 393-foot homer to bring two runs back. 🎉 That brought cheers and renewed energy to the stands, but despite a great double from CJ Abrams, we couldn't bring those crucial scores home. Heading into the 9th, with the fans buzzing, a smart base running play by Nasim Nuñez, who stole second, lit up some hope in our dugout. But a fly out by Abrams ended our late game rally.

Final score: Cards 4, Nats 2. Let's take solace in Crews' performance and hope to bounce back in the next game! 💪⚾
