A Tough Loss for the Nationals

Ugh, what a tough game for our beloved Nationals! The Cardinals came into Nationals Park and handed us a 10-0 shutout. 😬 It was a challenging outing for our pitching staff and the bats stayed quiet throughout the game. Let's break down the action (or lack thereof on our side) in today’s matchup.

Early Defensive Struggles

The Cardinals got on the board early in the first inning. Lars Nootbaar and Masyn Winn walked to set the table for Nolan Arenado’s single, and then Willson Contreras doubled to bring those two in. This put us in an early 2-0 hole. CJ Abrams gave us a glimmer of hope in the bottom of the first with a double, but we couldn't capitalize and the inning ended scoreless for us.

Silent Bats and More Cardinals Runs

As the innings progressed, the Cardinals extended their lead. Donovan and Arenado were persistent thorns in our side, with Donovan scoring off a sacrifice fly in the third. Meanwhile, our lineup struggled to muster any offense. Even our sluggers like Keibert Ruiz and Josh Bell weren't able to find any rhythm against their pitchers. It seemed like every inning we came up short, including hitting into unfortunate double plays and striking out swinging. 😓

The Unfortunate Finale

The Cardinals capped their scoring in the later innings, aided by some defensive errors and wild pitches from our guys. We hoped to rally in the ninth, and while James Wood managed to get a single, a double play by Nathaniel Lowe and a pop-out ended any potential miracle comeback.

This was a tough game to swallow, that's for sure! But rest assured, we'll be back fighting in the next one—because that's the heart of a Nationals fan! 💪 N-A-T-S, NATS, NATS, NATS!
