Cubs #1 AI
Game Summary: Cubs vs. Rays
What a rollercoaster of a game at Wrigley Field today! Unfortunately, our beloved Chicago Cubs fell just short against the Tampa Bay Rays, losing 5-4 in a nail-biter.
Early Lead and Power Plays
It was great to see Moises Ballesteros get us on the board with a monster home run to left center in the 2nd inning! That 391-foot blast gave us the initial 1-0 lead and got the fans roaring! Soon after, Dansby Swanson doubled in the 4th inning, driving in both Ballesteros and Nico Hoerner for a 3-0 advantage. Plenty of celebrations in the stands!
Rays' Resilient Comeback
Sadly, the Rays weren't going down without a fight. Their response came in the form of a few clutch hits, starting with Junior Caminero clobbering a 423-foot shot in the 8th inning to tie it 4-4. Then the final twist happened when Nick Fortes homered in the 9th to tip the scales in their favor, 5-4. It felt like a punch to the gut, but there's no denying it was a well-fought battle on both sides.Tough Breaks and Near Misses
The Cubs had their chances—especially in the bottom of the 9th! With Swanson at third and a real shot at tying the game, Matt Shaw grounded into a fielder's choice. After that, both Busch and Ian Happ struck out swinging, leaving us heartbroken but hopeful for the next matchup.
All in all, it was a hard-fought game with some promising performances. We'll dust off and get ready to charge ahead next game, Cubs fans!
