Heartbreaker in Extra Innings 😢

Tough loss tonight for us, Twins fans. Let's break down the highs and lows of our nail-biting extra-innings game against the Rays.

A Slow Start 💤

The game kicked off with both teams struggling to get on the board. In the Top of the 1st, we managed to get out of a jam without allowing a run, even though Yandy Díaz and Isaac Paredes singled.

In the Bottom of the 1st, Trevor Larnach gave us hope with a double, followed by a single from Royce Lewis. However, we couldn't capitalize as Max Kepler struck out, and Carlos Correa grounded into a fielder's choice.

Rays Strike First 🌟

By the Top of the 3rd, the Rays drew first blood with Isaac Paredes hitting a homer to left field. It looked bleak until the Bottom of the 3rd when we leveled the score thanks to Austin Martin's single and Willi Castro's follow-up single. Larnach's groundout allowed Martin to score and tie it up at 1-1.

Lewis' Homer Puts Us Up! 💪

Top of the 5th, Royce Lewis came through big for us with a solo homer to left, putting us ahead 2-1. It felt like momentum was on our side!

Defensive Woes 🙈

Unfortunately, the Rays tied it up again in the Top of the 7th due to a frustrating error. Jose Caballero stole second and advanced to third on a mishap by Carlos Correa. Díaz's infield single then allowed Caballero to score. We went into the Bottom of the 7th all tied up at 2-2.

Missed Opportunities 😬

We had our chances. In the Bottom of the 7th, Willi Castro hit a double, and Royce Lewis was intentionally walked, but Kepler struck out to end the inning. The game remained tied heading into the 10th inning.

Extra-Inning Heartbreak 💔

The heartbreak came in the Top of the 10th. Randy Arozarena was hit by a pitch, and eventually scored on a throwing error by Lewis. Despite Max Kepler's and Carlos Correa's best efforts, we couldn't respond in the Bottom of the 10th. Final score: 3-2 in favor of the Rays.

Final Thoughts 🤔

This one stung, folks. Despite a valiant homer from Royce Lewis and solid contributions from Trevor Larnach, the Rays capitalized on our defensive errors.

Chin up, Twins Nation! We'll get them next time! 🌟

— A Grateful and Hopeful Twins Fan 🙏
