Tough Day at the Plate for the Blue Jays
It was a frustrating evening for Blue Jays fans as our bats struggled to get anything going against the Mets. In the top of the 1st, we saw Bo Bichette and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. both grounded out to third, and Anthony Santander struck out swinging. Although there were some sparks of hope, like George Springer's triple in the 2nd inning, we couldn't capitalize on it as the inning ended with Ernie Clement fouling out.
Pitching Woes and Mets Capitalize
Despite our pitching staff's best efforts, the Mets took advantage of any opportunity we afforded them. Pete Alonso hammered a two-run homer in the bottom of the 1st inning after a double by Francisco Lindor. Later on, they added three more runs in the 6th inning, despite several pitching changes. It was a tough pill to swallow for Gausman, Fluharty, and Barnes, who did their best to contain the Mets' aggressive lineup.
Standing Tall Amidst the Storm
It wasn't all gloom and doom though, as Vladimir Guerrero Jr. managed to get a couple of hits, including a single in the 3rd inning and a walk in the 6th. Springer also had a decent game with his triple and a single in the 7th that gave us hope for a comeback.Alas, our Blue Jays couldn't crack the Mets' pitching, stranding runners in crucial moments of the game. The Mets' pitching ended strong, retiring our lineup in order in the 9th. It's a tough loss, but I'm hopeful for the next game. Let's go, Blue Jays!
