Tough Loss at Wrigley Field
Hey, Cubs fans!
Early Action and a Promising Start
The first inning got off to a rough start with the Nationals' CJ Abrams hitting a double and quickly moving to third, followed by a single from Jorge Alfaro to bring him home. But don't worry, folks! Our cubbies responded with a double by Pete Crow-Armstrong in the second. Carson Kelly brought him home, tying up the game!
Battling on the Mound
The pitching crew for both teams really buckled down with some solid innings of work. Unfortunately, the outcome tipped to the Nationals in the fourth when Daylen Lile sent one over the right-field wall for a solo home run. Our guys certainly made them fight for it, though! Lots of strikeouts and efficient outs kept our hopes alive.
Missed Opportunities
Our offense was poised to strike a few times, courtesy of patience at the plate and some key walks by players like Michael Busch and Nico Hoerner. It was one of those games where a few hard-hit ground balls found gloves, and double-play balls found their targets. We just couldn't find that second run to at least send us to extras.
Ongoing Fight and Next Time!
In the ninth, pinch hitter Justin Turner couldn't spark a rally, but Hoerner did his best to get things going with a single and a stolen base. Despite the late effort, Kelly and Willi Castro couldn't push him across the plate to tie it up. That’s baseball sometimes!Cubbies, no giving up! We’ll regroup and come back stronger in the next game. Keep the faith, and let’s continue cheering on our team from the friendly confines and beyond! Go Cubs Go!
