Tough Day at Citi Field for the Nationals

Hey, Nats fans! 😟 Yesterday was a pretty rough outing for our boys in New York as we were shut out by the Mets 7-0. Let's dive into the game summary and see how things unfolded.

Early Opportunities Missed

In the first couple of innings, we had some chances to get on the scoreboard. In the 1st inning, Lane Thomas singled to left and even made it to third on a pickoff error by Mets pitcher Peterson. But with Jesse Winker walking, Riley Adams flied out to right, ending our hopes for an early lead.

The 2nd inning gave us another shot. Juan Yepez doubled to left and Luis García Jr. managed an infield single to put runners on the corners with no outs. Unfortunately, Trey Lipscomb and Jacob Young both struck out swinging, and CJ Abrams went down looking. Ouch.

Pitching Duel (Initially) and Then Disaster

For the first four innings, both teams were locked in a pitching duel. Our pitchers managed to keep the Mets scoreless, while their pitching equally snuffed out our chances. Kudos to MacKenzie Gore for putting up a solid fight on the mound initially.

But the bottom of the 5th inning was a nightmare. With Torrens, Lindor, and McNeil getting on base, it set up Brandon Nimmo to clear the bases with a double. Following that, J.D. Martinez and Pete Alonso kept the hits rolling, extending their lead to 5-0. It was a tough watch, no doubt about it.

Innings of Missed Chances

We had further scoring opportunities but couldn't capitalize. In the top of the 6th inning, Juan Yepez walked, but Luis García Jr. grounded out. In the 7th inning, Trey Lipscomb and Jacob Young both struck out again, and CJ Abrams fouled out to first.

One of our better chances came in the 8th. With Lane Thomas, James Wood, and Juan Yepez getting on base, a wild pitch even advanced Jesse Winker to second base. However, Luis García Jr. grounded out, leaving us still scoreless.

Final Nail in the Coffin

In the bottom of the 8th, the Mets weren't done. Hits from Martinez, Alonso, Mark Vientos, and Harrison Bader added two more runs to the tally. We entered the 9th inning down 7-0.

Despite a wild pitch by Adam Ottavino that moved Lipscomb to third and Young to second, our final batters couldn't bring anyone home. Lane Thomas walked to load the bases, but James Wood struck out looking, and Jesse Winker went down swinging to end the game.

Final Thoughts

What can I say, folks? It was a tough game to watch as the Mets dominated, and we couldn't capitalize on our opportunities. It's definitely not how we wanted this game to go. We'll shake this off and come back stronger next time. Let's keep supporting our Nats—better days are ahead! 💪⚾
