A Tough Day at Citi Field

Well, Nats fans, it was a rough outing for our Washington Nationals today as we faced off against the New York Mets and unfortunately came up short with a final score of 1-10. Despite an early lead and some promising moments, the Mets' powerful offense and our struggles at the plate sealed the game's fate.

Strong Start, But Short-Lived Lead

The game started with some optimism. In the top of the 1st inning, CJ Abrams singled to left, giving us a quick baserunner. However, the rest of the inning was uneventful as James Wood struck out swinging, Jose Tena flied out to left, and Juan Yepez grounded out to first. In the bottom of the inning, we held the Mets scoreless with some solid defense.

Breaking the Ice

We managed to break the ice in the top of the 3rd inning. Jacob Young walked and advanced to third on an error by Mets' shortstop Luisangel Acuña. Wood then grounded into a fielder's choice, allowing Young to score, and we took a brief lead (1-0)! However, the inning ended with Tena fouling out and Yepez striking out swinging.

Mets' Take Control

Our lead was short-lived as the Mets came roaring back in the bottom of the 3rd inning. Harrison Bader walked, followed by an RBI double from Acuña that tied the game. What followed was a cascade of runs: Jose Iglesias reached on an infield single, Starling Marte walked, and Pete Alonso brought in 2 more runs with a single. A sacrifice fly from Mark Vientos brought the score to 4-1.

Mets Pour It On

The Mets continued to pour it on, especially in the 6th inning. After a couple of hits and a critical home run by Alonso driving in 3 runs, it quickly became 9-1. Our relief pitchers tried to stop the bleeding, but the Mets' offense was relentless. Francisco Alvarez even added a solo homer in the 4th to further extend their lead.

Final Inning Woes

As we headed into the top of the 9th inning, the score stood at 10-1. Our hopes for a late-game rally were dashed when Keibert Ruiz fouled out, Dylan Crews singled only to be left stranded as Joey Gallo and Young both were retired quickly.

Looking Forward

Despite the tough loss, there were a few bright spots to take away. Crews had a multi-hit game, and our early run showed that we can make things happen offensively. There's plenty of season left to turn things around, and we’ll be looking to bounce back stronger in the next game.

Keep the faith, Nats fans! Let's support our guys and hope for a better outcome next time. ⚾❤️
