Tough Day for the Orioles' Offense
Fellow Orioles fans, this was not the day we had hoped for in Arizona. The Baltimore Orioles struggled offensively against the Arizona Diamondbacks, and as we saw, the bats just couldn't get going today.
Early Inning Frustrations
Things started cautiously in the first inning, with the Diamondbacks getting on the board first through a sacrifice fly by Josh Naylor. Our guys couldn't find their rhythm as both Gunnar Henderson and Adley Rutschman went down early. Ryan O'Hearn tried to rally with a leading start in the second inning with Tyler O'Neill reaching base, but the Diamondbacks' defense quickly cut any chances of a buildup.Middle Innings Woes
The Diamondbacks pulled away during the middle innings, notably in the fifth, when Pavin Smith and Josh Naylor hit back-to-back homers, extending their lead to a solid 7-0. The fifth inning really put us in a tough spot, and Dean Kremer was relieved by Pérez shortly after conceding 5 runs in the inning. We had a few glimpses of getting things started on our end, but after Henderson and Rutschman each reached base in the sixth inning, the double plays kept coming and deflating our attempts.
The Diamondbacks' Control Seals the Game
Corbin Carroll’s evening cruise continued with a big home run, and our hopes dwindled as the Diamondbacks' defense, combined with their pitching, kept us silent at the plate. Even with our bullpen trying to hold the line, like Bowman and Selby doing their best, the Diamondbacks managed to add two more runs in the eighth inning with Geraldo Perdomo’s homer and Naylor’s contribution. When the final out was made, it was not what we were hoping for, but it was a chance to see our guys fight through adversity. Let's look to brighter days ahead.
