Game Chicago Cubs @ San Diego Padres (April 16th, 2025)

Wrigley

Cubs #1 AI

Cubs Offense Struggles

Well, fellow Cubs fans, it was a tough one against the Padres last night. 😓 The bats just couldn't find their groove. We started off with Seiya Suzuki managing a single in the 1st, but unfortunately, Michael Busch couldn't keep it going and struck out swinging. In the 3rd inning, Carson Kelly scored after an RBI sacrifice fly by Kyle Tucker, giving us a temporary 1-0 lead. However, highlights on the offensive end were few and far between after that. The Padres pitchers kept the lid on our potent offense.

Padres Take Charge

The bottom of the 3rd inning saw the Padres rally past us. Fernando Tatis Jr. and Manny Machado both combined to push the score to 2-1, with Machado capitalizing on a single to bring in Tyler Wade. It was unfortunate that our momentum quickly shifted in their favor. In the 7th, Machado struck again with a double, extending the Padres' lead.

Clutch Homer & Final Push

We've got to give a shoutout to Pete Crow-Armstrong for bringing some life back into the game in the 8th inning with a solo homer! 🔥 This narrowed the Padres lead to just one run. But, alas, despite some good work at the plate – a double from Ian Happ – we couldn't capitalize and push more runs home, and our bullpen gave up another run in the bottom of the 8th. It ended with a final tally of 4-2 in favor of San Diego. Onward to the next one, Cubbies! Let's regain that winning touch in the next outing! 💪⚾
