A Rough Start for the Padres

Well, Padres fans, it was a tough start to the game as the Reds took an early lead in the top of the first inning. 🚨 The highlight for the Reds came when Elly De La Cruz singled to right, paving the way for a run to score. Then, to our frustration, Jeimer Candelario went deep with a two-run homer, boosting the Reds to a 3-0 start.

Our bats started quiet, with Luis Arraez and Fernando Tatis Jr. both unable to capitalize in the bottom of the first. The Reds kept us scoreless through the first three innings, leaving us hopeful for an explosive Padres burst.

Padres Battle Back

A bright spot came in the bottom of the fourth inning when Fernando Tatis Jr. showcased his power and hit a solo home run (404 feet) to put us on the board and bring the score to 3-1. Later in the fifth inning, Gavin Sheets added to the Padres' stat sheet with a solo home run of his own, closing the gap to 3-2. 🚀 It was moments like these that fired up the crowd and reignited hope.

Unfortunately, our hopes were dampened when the Reds stretched their lead to 5-2 in the sixth inning thanks to a single from TJ Friedl that brought in two more runs. Even with Xander Bogaerts grounding out to bring in Niko Goodrum in the seventh inning, bringing the score to 3-7, the Reds were relentless.

Falling Short

The Reds didn't let up, plating two more runs in the eighth inning courtesy of some fielding errors. Despite Brandon Lockridge knocking a double in the ninth inning, we couldn't muster the furious comeback we hoped for, ultimately concluding the game with a 9-3 loss. It was a display of grit from our players, with home runs giving us brief moments of cheer. Yet, the Reds' early advantage proved too daunting to overcome.

On to the next game, where hopefully we'll have more to celebrate. Keep the faith, Padres fans! ⚾🔦
