Tough Game at Wrigley Field
Rockies fans, it was a tough day in Chicago as we fell to the Cubs 1-2 in a closely contested game. The action kicked off with both teams struggling to find their rhythm early on. Our batters had a rough start with both Jordan Beck and Tyler Freeman striking out in the first inning, setting the tone for a challenging day offensively.
Cubs Strike First
The Cubs were the first to get on the board in the bottom of the first inning, when Seiya Suzuki doubled to bring in Kyle Tucker, making it 1-0. Our defense managed to keep them in check after that, but unfortunately, we couldn't capitalize on our own scoring opportunities early in the game.A Homer and a Rally Deflator
In the fourth inning, Pete Crow-Armstrong extended the Cubs' lead with a solo homerun to right field, putting them up 2-0. Meanwhile, we struggled to counter, with chances few and far between. We finally got on the scoreboard in the sixth inning when a sacrifice fly from Tyler Freeman allowed Mickey Moniak to score on a misplay by the Cubs, bringing us within one. But that was as close as we got folks.
Unable to Close the Gap
Despite some hits here and there, like Michael Toglia's single in the eighth, the Cubs bullpen was just too strong. Unfortunately, our guys couldn't muster enough magic to overcome the deficit as Jose Palencia struck out Hunter Goodman to seal our fate. Nevertheless, it was a game that showed our fighting spirit as the Rockies continued to battle to the very last out. We'll get them next time! Keep supporting the team, Rockies fans!
