A Tough Game in the Capital
Hey Tigers fans!
A Promising Start
Our boys started strong in the first inning. Colt Keith showed patience with a walk, and Gleyber Torres set up a promising opportunity with a single to left. With two on base, Spencer Torkelson launched a jaw-dropping 428-foot homer to center, giving us a quick 3-0 lead!
Nationals Pull Ahead
Despite the rough start for both pitchers, the Nationals kept the pressure on, adding a solo home run by James Wood in the second and continuing to capitalize on errors in subsequent innings. They stretched their lead to 9-3 after a series of singles and some defensive miscues on our part in the 5th.
Battling Back
Never count our Tigers out! In the 7th inning, a rally began with hits from Parker Meadows and Gleyber Torres, bringing us within 9-5. Wenceel Pérez also contributed with an RBI single, and a sharp eye on the bases brought two more runs across in the 8th, closing the gap to 9-7. Our Tigers showed heart, fighting back with determination!
Closing Struggles
Alas, the Nationals had a response in the bottom of the 8th. They added two more runs, creating an 11-7 lead that we just couldn't surmount in the final inning. The game wrapped up with Riley Greene's valiant effort being silenced by Finnegan's closing performance for the Nats.Final Thoughts
Though we didn’t end up on top, our Tigers showed flashes of brilliance and didn’t let up. We've got some things to work on, but there's plenty of fight left in our season. Let's keep that Tiger pride strong and look forward to the next matchup!
