Tough Night in Queens
The New York Mets faced off against the Yankees tonight at Citi Field, and it was a bit of a nail-biter until the end. Unfortunately, the Yankees walked away with a 6-4 win. As a Mets fan, it’s always tough watching our guys come up short, but we did see some positive moments that we can build upon.
Early Innings & Yankee Dominance
The game started off promising with Starling Marte reaching on a bunt single and then stealing second in the first inning. Sadly, we couldn’t capitalize on that early opportunity. The Yankees were the first to get on the scoreboard in the 3rd inning, thanks to a home run by Austin Wells. The 4th and 5th innings saw the Yankees extend their lead to 5-0, highlighted by a two-run homer from Aaron Judge. Our pitching struggled to contain their hits during this stretch, but it wasn’t all over yet!Mets Rally, but Fall Short
Our bats finally woke up in the 5th inning. Francisco Lindor came through with a clutch single to center, scoring Jeff McNeil and Hayden Senger. In the 6th inning, the offense kept rolling as the Yankees' pitchers started feeling the pressure. Ronny Mauricio and Brett Baty got on base, and McNeil once again came through, bringing in another run to close the gap to 5-3. When Senger hit into a double play that brought home another run, it became a narrow 5-4 game.Final Innings & Yankees’ Insurance Run
In the 7th, the Yankees managed to add one more off a sacrifice fly by Judge, making it 6-4. Our Mets fought hard till the end but couldn't overcome the deficit. Luis Torrens had a chance to be the hero in the 9th but struck out looking to end the game.Though it wasn’t the result we hoped for, there were glimpses of shining performances by some of our players. Let’s regroup and come back stronger next time. Mets fans, we've got plenty of games left to chase down!
