A Tough Day for the Padres
Well, Padres fans, it was a rough outing in the Windy City as we faced off against the Chicago Cubs. From the start, it seemed like the Cubs’ pitchers had our number, keeping us scoreless until the 7th inning.
Early Inning Struggles
The game began on a tough note for us. Fernando Tatis Jr. struck out swinging, but Luis Arraez did give us hope with a double to right. Sadly, Manny Machado popped out, and Xander Bogaerts walked, but Jackson Merrill grounded out to leave us scoreless. The Cubs capitalized on their chances in the bottom of the 2nd, with Carson Kelly driving in a run and Kyle Tucker walking in another, leaving us down 0-2.Cubs' Offensive Power
The Cubs really poured it on in the 3rd and 4th innings. Dansby Swanson homered to extend their lead. Errors didn’t help us, as Nico Hoerner reached on one, and soon after, Carson Kelly hit another home run with Hoerner and Matt Shaw on base, making it 7-0 by the end of the 6th. Our bullpen tried to contain the damage, but the Cubs kept finding ways to cross the plate.A Glimmer of Hope
Finally, in the top of the 7th, we avoided the shutout. Brandon Lockridge reached first with an infield single, then moved to third on Elias Díaz's single to left. Tatis Jr. came through, hitting a single to right and driving in Lockridge to put us on the scoreboard.
Final Thoughts
Despite our boys’ efforts, the Cubs had our number this time, ultimately securing a 7-1 victory. While it’s always tough to watch our team fall short, let’s keep faith in the Padres. We know they can bounce back – and we’ll be with them, every step of the way!
