Tough Day at Wrigley Field
Hey Cubs Fans, it's time to break down today's game against the Giants. We were hoping for a great showdown at Wrigley Field, but alas, we fell short with a 3-1 loss. Our bats were rather quiet against the Giants' pitching. Let's dive into the details.Missed Opportunities
The game started off with a tough display as the Giants quickly got on the board. In the top of the first, Wilmer Flores singled, bringing Mike Yastrzemski home to score. Our defense was decent, but we couldn't stop the Giants from chipping away. Nico Hoerner gave us a glimmer of hope when he doubled in the 2nd and 4th innings. Pete Crow-Armstrong's double finally got us on the board by bringing Hoerner home in the 4th inning. Our boys Ian Happ and Kyle Tucker showed patience with walks in the 3rd, yet we still couldn’t get a rally going.
The Battle Continues
Throughout the mid-innings, we continued to struggle offensively with the Giants' pitching keeping us at bay. Dansby Swanson had a gritty walk in the 7th, but all attempts to advance were thwarted. There were a few bright moments with our relievers Pomeranz, Merryweather, and Keller, holding the Giants scoreless from the 5th inning onwards. However, it simply wasn’t enough as we couldn't break through when it was needed.
No Late Inning Magic
Heading into the 9th inning, we all believed in a possible comeback magic at Wrigley. Carson Kelly started with a single to center. But our hopes were dashed as Justin Turner grounded into a double play and Nico Hoerner ended with a ground out to third.
Let's rally behind our Cubbies and look forward as the season isn't over yet!
